Mridula Baljekar

Mridula Baljekar was born and raised in Assam in North East India, where she was inspired by her grandmother to develop a childhood passion for cooking. When she moved to England, she turned her passion into a highly successful career, becoming an award-winning cookery writer and best-selling author of 27 of Indian cookbooks to date. Mridula’s “Complete Indian Cookbook,” has sold over a million copies worldwide.

Her awards from the prestigious Gourmand International Cookbook Awards include Best in the World for her “Complete Indian Regional Cookbook” and The Best Asian Cookbook in the World for her book, “Great Indian Feasts.” Her food has been described by the media as “Heaven on Earth for the senses,” “Route to spice heaven,” and “traditional Indian cuisine with a brilliant modern twist.”

Mridula has been a regular presenter on the major UK TV networks, and has appeared on numerous other TV channels in the UK and India, including two successful series, “Mridula’s Indian Kitchen” and the highly acclaimed “Spice Trail.” Mridula teaches Indian cooking to some of the best chefs in the UK, and her lecture demonstrations in the US have been highly popular. She previously owned a contemporary Indian restaurant in Windsor, England, winning several prestigious awards, including the winner at the Best in Britain Awards from 2002-2006. Her catering clients include rock stars and heads of state.

Mridula made headlines when she stepped in as the UK food giant Tesco’s Indian chilled ready meals consultant and turned them around. During the 6 years that Mridula spent consulting with Tesco’s, she developed and launched 27 lines for them. She was described in the media as the “cook who spiced up a superstore.” She offers consultancy services to successful Indian restaurants in the UK and India, and has worked with the spice manufacturing company Schwartz.

Mridula has her own range of spiced chutneys and premium cooking sauces, and her Spiced Tomato Chutney captured a gold star at the 2017 Great Taste Awards. Known throughout the UK as the “Curry Queen,” Mridula most recently launched a line of high quality Indian ready meals in the Windsor/Eaton area and has plans to expand throughout the UK. She was featured in the September 2020 edition of Curry Life in the UK, who aptly dubbed them as her “Covid Creations!”
